Strong Hearts ( Cardiac )

A 1 hour group exercise class that includes a combination of resistance & cardio exercises. Suited for the following people

All classes are monitored or delivered by a health professional (Exercise Physiologist, Physiotherapist or Dietitian) and include a maximum of 8 people per class

• High Cholesterol
• Bypass surgery or stents
• Heart attack
• Stable angina (chest pain)
• Heart failure
• Other cardiac surgery including valve replacement or valve dysfunction and pacemaker insertion
• Other patients who may benefit from structured exercise and/or education based on physician referral and consensus of the rehabilitation team

Babes On Board Classes

Babes on Board Pre and Post natal classes have been running for 15 years. Gill Wright brings her years of experience working in a variety of maternity hospitals across Melbourne and her post-graduate specialist Women’s health exercise qualifications

together to create a fun, safe and all round great exercise class.

Gill is passionate about enabling women to exercise and is skilled at modifying and accommodating any pregnancy issues and problems.

Womens Wellness Yoga Classes

These group classes are personalised to take into account your specific needs. When your yoga program fits you, yoga is comfortable, safe and enjoyable. This makes having a regular practice more likely and more achievable, and allows you to experience the many physical, emotional and life benefits yoga can offer.

These classes are ideal whether you are a beginner or have some previous yoga experience. We use asana (postures) linked with breathing practices to prepare you for deep relaxation and some meditation.

Strong Bones (Strength & Balance)

A 1hr Group based circuit including a combination of aerobic training,  upper & lower body strength exercises (to improve muscular endurance) as well as static, dynamic & functional balance exercises.

All classes are monitored or delivered by a health professional (Exercise Physiologist, Physiotherapist or Dietitian) and include a maximum of 8 people per class

• Elderly
• Muscle wastage (atrophy/sarcopenia)
• Low bone density (Osteoporosis/osteopenia)
• History of falls or at risk of a fall
• Heart failure Severe osteoarthritis (not needing weight loss)

New Mums & Bubs Exercise & Education Classes

FEEL GREAT FROM THE INSIDE OUT WITH THESE CLASSES FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY.

The Mother & Baby Exercise Program is an 8 week group exercise and education program. Each week, the new mothers do an hour of exercise run by a physiotherapist specialising in post-natal exercise and then a 30 minute topic presented by one of a physiotherapist, dietitian, lactation consultant, speech therapist or counsellor. The 30 minute education sessions cover important mothercrafting topics such as baby massage, nutrition for mums, introducing solids, feeding your baby, communicating with your baby, toys for your baby & tips for adjusting to your new life as a mum.

Research has been conducted on this program which demonstrated that those new mums that participated in this program were happier as well as a lower risk of post-natal depression. The success of this program has been published and has featured on Channel 7 news & the Herald Sun.

The Mums & Bubs Exercise program is an 8 week group exercise and education program. Each week compromises of 1 hour of exercise, tailored by a physiotherapist specialising in post-natal exercise, followed by a 30 minute education session on important parenting topics.

Stress Reduction Classes

STRESS LESS AND MOVE MORE PEACEFULLY THROUGH LIFE USING MINDFULNESS MEDITATION AND RESTORATIVE YOGA.

Chronic stress is detrimental to our physical and mental health. It can negatively impact sleep, digestion, our reproductive system, immunity and more. With the skills and techniques you will learn in these classes you can break your habitual reactions to stress and respond to everyday challenges feeling more empowered, relaxed and at ease.

In these grounded and practical classes we will be looking at stress in relation to work, family, relationships, pain, illness, food and sleep. You will learn to approach stress in a responsive and conscious manor using mindfulness meditation and restorative yoga incorporating movement, breathing, relaxation, reflection and meditation.

Clinical Exercise Session

What is Clinical Exercise?

Clinical Exercise Sessions are tailored programs that are prescribed and monitored by a Physiotherapist. It is a type of treatment that allows patients to achieve their specific rehabilitation goals through different types of exercise, including Pilates. The exercises prescribed are based on the most up to date scientific research, which means it has been proven to help you recover from your specific injury. Exercises sessions will utilise the Pilates Reformer and other gym equipment.

At Pelvic Strength Physiotherapy we will conduct and initial assessment one on one with the patient. This will help us create specific goals, and decide which exercises are appropriate for you. The physiotherapist will then record some physical assessment findings as well as get you to fill out a reliable questionnaire. This will help the physiotherapist monitor improvement and revise the program when needed. The physiotherapist will conduct regular retesting throughout the duration of your exercise rehabilitation.

Prenatal & Post Natal Yoga Classes

PRENATAL YOGA CLASSES DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY TO SUPPORT YOUR PREGNANCY AND CHILD BIRTH.

This weekly yoga class helps you have a healthier, happier and more comfortable pregnancy by strengthening, stretching and supporting your body to cope with the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy and child birth. Small groups and personal attention means classes are tailored around participants’ needs.

Each class helps address and manage common pregnancy discomforts and problems including back pain, sciatica, fluid retention, indigestion/heartburn. Prepare your body and mind for child birth with meditation and visualisation so that you can more effectively manage anxiety, pain and discomfort leading up and during child birth and approach this special time with confidence.

Core Stability Physio Group Classes

Core Stability Physio is a small business run by Katherine Edmonds, Physiotherapist. Core Stability Physio specialises in small group exercise classes run by physios. Assessments are required prior to starting in the group classes.

  • Target stabilising muscles in the body to improve core strength and joint stability.
  • Low-impact exercises designed to improve body awareness, coordination, balance and posture, and reduce pain and stiffness.
  • 3 different Core Stability Physio group classes are offered at Pelvic Strength Physiotherapy:

General group classes

  • Small group floor-based exercise classes (limited to 6 in a group)
  • Suitable for all ages and fitness levels
  • Suitable for participants with poor posture, weak abdominal muscles, weak pelvic floor muscles, mild-moderate pelvic organ prolapse, chronic neck or back pain (and many other conditions)

Pregnancy group classes

  • Small group classes specifically designed for women during pregnancy
  • Floor-based exercises performed on mats and fit balls
  • Suitable throughout all stages of pregnancy

Postnatal group classes

 

  • Small group classes specifically designed for women who have recently had a baby
  • Floor-based exercises performed on mats and fit balls with small equipment like hand weights, stability balls and foam rollers
  • Suitable from 6 weeks after childbirth and babies are welcome
